The long and short of it is that my family was trying to buy into perhaps the most competitive real estate market in the area in the most competitive price range. Whatever house we decided to make an offer on would likely get another 5, 10, 20 offers. Carol didn't pressure us, but she was very matter of fact about telling us what we needed to do to be competitive. Sure enough, it worked. We got the very first house we put an offer on after looking for one weekend.
